Bring in the Wine — Li Bai

Do you not see the Yellow River come from the sky,
Rushing into the sea and ne’er come back?

Do you not see the mirrors bright in chambers high
Grieve o’er the snow-white hair once black as silk?

When hopes are won, oh drink your fill in high delight,
And leave not your wine cup empty against the moon.

Heaven has endowed me with talents for eventual use;
Even if gold is spent, it will come back again.

Cook mutton, slaughter ox to make merry,
We must drink three hundred cups in one go!

Master Cen, Danqiu my friend,
Drink up! Let your cup not rest!

I’ll sing a song for you;
Please lend your ears to me.

Music and fancy feasts are not precious;
I only wish to stay drunk and never wake.

Sages and saints of old are all forgotten;
Only great drinkers leave their names behind.

Once Prince Chen feasted at Pingle Hall,
Ten thousand coins for a peck of wine, merry and free.

Why say you have little wine money, host?
Go buy wine at once, and we’ll drink together.

My dappled steed, my fur coat worth a thousand gold,
Call the boy to take them for fine wine,
To melt with you the endless sorrows of ages.
